The Distil project (www.distil.org.uk ) produces its 5th Showcase of work by new Scottish composers, largely working in the field of traditional music. The musicians have all taken part in Distil's residential courses with a range of composers from the worlds of contemporary classical and free improvisation, including well known names such as Alasdair Nicolson, Paul Dunmall and Simon Fell.
The line-up of composers for the Showcase is: harpists Rachel Newton and Wendy Stewart, pianist Hamish Napier, guitarist Sandy Stanage, cellist Wendy Weatherby, piper Calum MacCrimmon and flute player Tom Oakes. Their pieces will be played by Scotland's most eclectic contemporary music group, Mr McFall's Chamber, who will be working with Sally Beamish to realise the composers' ideas.
