When I read last August that Martha Argerich would be performing four consecutive concerts with the Loa Angeles Philharmonic in March of 2011, I thought, how did the LA Phil accomplish that feat? Of course, I included one of those performances when I purchased my season tickets. Well, she cancelled at the last minute. Fortunately, the orchestra was able to find a superlative replacement, Jeremy Denk whose performance was described by the music critic of the LA Times as an, "illuminating account of Beethoven's exuberant early (first in C major) concerto." I left the concert hall feeling elated rather than disappointed. Here, Jeremy Denk plays the Toccata and Gigue from Bach's Partita No 6 in E minor, BWV 830.
