In WordPress, the purpose of a child theme is to make sure that when your main theme gets updated, your changes, such as CSS or PHP, do not disappear like they otherwise would.
Creating a child theme can be very complicated, but it really doesn't have to be. Using the Child Theme Configurator plugin, the whole process takes less than a minute to complete.
All you have to do is install and activate the plugin. Then, go under Tools and choose Child Themes. Press ''Analyze'' and when that's done and you're given the green light, scroll to the bottom.
Under step 8, I recommend checking this but if you're setting up a child theme for a completely new, blank website, it's not necessary at all. When you're done, just press ''Create a New Child Theme'', go to Appearance - Themes and activate your new child theme.
