From historical films to a new message by Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, this video is published on occasion of 1st of December 2018, the 30th anniversary of World AIDS Day. We’ve come a long way from the fear, stigma and ignorance that defined the HIV epidemic in the 1980s. Since the beginning of the epidemic, more than 70 million people have acquired HIV, and 35 million people have died of AIDS-related illnesses. But today we have better tools than ever before to diagnose and treat HIV. WHO recommends HIV self-testing, which is especially important for reaching the most vulnerable people.
