French cartoons of 1814 make fun of untidily dressed Cossacks walking around Paris in ragged caftans from below.
The French were unaware that the Cossack wore everything on himself And when he ran out of wads for weapons, he tore strips of fabric from his caftan and used them as wads.
With the development of small arms and the appearance of cartridges for it, the applied functions of gas filters, as well as tools on the belt, ceased to be used.
And in the second half of the XIX century, a Circassian with gazyrs and a belt with pendants became the main recognizable elements of the form of the Kuban Cossack army.
And the quantity, the material, the pretentiousness of the decorations of gazyrs and 0-belt pendants
depended only on the taste and prosperity of the Cossack.
The gazyrs and belts of the Cossacks of that time were practically not preserved, they were either lost or eaten in the 30s during the Holodomor, not literally eaten, but were exchanged for food, since mostly these elements were silver.
Rare preserved specimens are kept in museums, private collections and families of bearers of Cossack traditions.
