🇺🇸 Hobby Explorer's Book Selection Process.
First, before choosing a book. I ask myself, is there any problem in life that I am currently facing? Personal or professional.
Then, I search books on that particular problem.
Sometimes I tell my friends that I am facing this problem and ask them if they have any book suggestions. Sometimes, I get really good recommendations.
After short-listing a few books based on Amazon ratings (say) 5 books.
I do research on the author to check the authenticity.
Has the author won any awards in writing?
Ex: Isabel Wilkerson is a Pulitzer-winning author. I chose to read her book after seeing that.
Then I search my nearest library if there is a free book.
Then I put on my headphones
1. “study focus music”
2. Or music that does not have lyrics.
Then I read.
This is generally how I choose to read “non-fiction”.
This is the reason why I have the motivation to finish a book. Because I need to solve that problem!
I also have interest in social issues.
In those cases, I ask myself what social issue I would like to know more about. Then, I do extensive research on that author. I watch YouTube interviews of that author to gauge how authentic they are.
