Nikon FM3a Limited
Nikon spared no expense to make the special edition FM3A, which is just as much a proof of concept as an actual retail product. The idea was simple: make the best mechanical SLR ever. The FM3A borrowed from decades of technological advancement made between its release in 2001 and the release of its predecessor, the FM2, in 1982. This allowed it to have DX coding, a film indicator window, and, most noticeably, a hybrid electro-mechanical shutter capable of aperture-priority auto exposure as well as manual mode. It’s intentionally bare-bones, offering exactly what Nikon thought high-end consumers would want and nothing more.
