This sqadia.com video lecture highlights on the sudden death from cardiac diseases. Various cardiovascular diseases like coronary obstruction, stenosis, thrombosis and myocardial infarction have been described. Our medical specialist, Dr Hina Khan sheds light upon the coronary insufficiency, autopsy diagnosis, cardiomyopathies and myocarditis. Furthermore, aortic valve disease and types of aneurysms as contributors of death have been deliberated.

CORONARY OBSTRUCTIONS
Unexpected deaths can be attributed to by coronary obstructions like ischaemic heart disease. Coronary atherosclerosis has been staged into intimal pathological thickening, fibrous or thin fibrous cap atheroma. Moreover, Dr Hina Khan has also elaborated about the lesion ulcerations and calcification alongside certain complications like ulcerated plaques and haemorrhage. Coronary thrombosis and stenosis are two other medical conditions which have been comprehensively discussed.

MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION
This section elucidates about the myocardial infarction as being one of leading cause of maladies now-a-days. It can either be laminar or regional or focal infarct. Autopsy diagnosis have also been shed light upon. This demonstrates eventual fibrosis, transmural infarction and interfibre clefts. Morphological changes along with zonal lesions and fragmentation have been expansively elaborated. Additionally, certain histochemical methods have also been mentioned viz H&E staining, acid fuchsin and haematoxylin/fuchsin/picric acid stain (HBFP). In the end, fluorescent methods and complications of myocardial infarction have been conversed about.

CORONARY INSUFFICIENCY
Demise owing to coronary insufficiency can be contributed to by coronary stenosis, atherosclerotic plaques and atheroma. In addition to that, atrial or ventricular fibrillation, thrombosis, necrosis and hypertension can also lead to the death of the individual. Dr Hina Khan then moves on to talk about the paraoxysmal nocturnal dyspnoea, ischemia of inner zone along side laminar myocardial damage.

CARDIOMYOPATHIES AND MYOCARDITIS
Cardiomyopathies, including dilated, hypertrophic, restrictive and arrhythmogenic right ventricular types can also be a causative factor for death. Each category presents with characteristic features. On the contrary, myocarditis can also be responsible for the individual’s death. It can occur owing to infections like diphtheria, necrosis etc. It can be diagnosed via polymerase chain reaction (PCR) or in-situ hybridization. Towards the end, Dr Hina has discussed about the death in old age via senile myocardium.

AORTIC VALVE DISEASE AND ANEURYSM
Sudden death can also be due to aortic valve disease like stenosis, myocardial lesions, tight aortic valve or concomitant coronary atherosclerosis. Aneurysms can also lead towards the demise of the patient if ruptured. Various types of aneurysm include atheromatous, dissecting, syphilitic and ruptured cerebral aneurysm. The former can either be fusiform or saccular. Fatal aneurysms of other vessels include polyarteritis nodosa, arteriovenous malformations and massive haemothorax.
