In the second trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire, there's a hint that Mothra might die again, this could explain some of the new changes in Godzilla's powers. I mean, she did transform Godzilla once before, so it's not a stretch to think she could do it again. When Mothra died in King of the Monsters, she was already pretty weak, so sacrificing a fully powered Mothra could give Godzilla an even bigger boost than before. That might even explain the color change—maybe the blue burning form is stronger than the red one. And what about that pink power-up Godzilla gets? Mothra's abilities weren't fully explored in just one Monsterverse movie, so who knows what she's capable of. It's possible her powers have something to do with Godzilla's upgrades. Maybe that's why she's making a comeback at all. Jia's visions hint that Mothra is crucial in the upcoming battle against the Skar King, and sacrificing herself to boost Godzilla's power could be the reason why. It's sad to think about Mothra dying in both of her Monsterverse appearances, but it's kind of in line with what she's done in the past—sacrificing herself for the greater good.
