Gary D. (born December 5, 1963; real name Gerald Malke; † September 1, 2016) was a German trance and techno DJ and producer.
Life:
Gary D. began his DJ career as Gary Dee in Hamburg in 1980 at the age of 16, playing disco, hip-hop and R&B. In the summer of 1988 he came into contact with house, techno and acid for the first time, which changed his musical style significantly. He soon started playing at the newly opened Unit Club until it had to close in 1994. He then became a resident DJ at the Tunnel Club until 1997, which finally helped him achieve his breakthrough. This was followed by appearances at major events such as Mayday and the Love Parade in Germany or Goliath and Energy in Switzerland. Around 2000 he also incorporated hardstyle into his sets and became very successful in the Netherlands, where he was booked for events such as Qlimax, Defqon.1, In Qontrol, Decibel and Mystery Land.
Gary D. also became known as the producer of numerous singles and compilations. Since 1995, Gary D. has released the D.Trance CD series. He was working on the 76th edition at the time of his death. Since 2000 there has also been the D-Techno series with a slightly harder music style. He also compiled the first seven albums in the Tunnel Trance Force series. His most famous singles include Die Herdplatte 100°, Kinetic Pressure and Overload.
In addition to his work as a solo artist, Gary D. also collaborated with fellow Hamburg DJs Sven Dohse (Emojonal) and Boris Dlugosch (Subtle Houzze).
Gary D. died on September 1, 2016 at the age of 52 due to a pulmonary embolism.

Leben:
Gary D. begann 1980 im Alter von 16 Jahren in Hamburg seine DJ-Karriere als Gary Dee und legte damals Disco, Hip-Hop und R&B auf. Im Sommer 1988 kam er erstmals mit House, Techno und Acid in Kontakt, was seinen Musikstil stark veränderte. Er legte bald im neueröffneten Unit Club auf, bis dieser 1994 schließen musste. Anschließend wurde er bis 1997 Resident-DJ im Tunnel Club, was ihm endgültig zum Durchbruch verhalf. Es folgten Auftritte bei Großveranstaltungen wie der Mayday und der Loveparade in Deutschland oder der Goliath und der Energy in der Schweiz. Um das Jahr 2000 baute er auch Hardstyle in seine Sets ein und wurde sehr erfolgreich in den Niederlanden, wo er für Veranstaltungen wie der Qlimax, Defqon.1, In Qontrol, Decibel und Mystery Land gebucht wurde.
Bekannt wurde Gary D. auch als Produzent zahlreicher Singles und Compilations. Seit 1995 brachte Gary D. die CD-Serie D.Trance heraus. Zum Zeitpunkt seines Todes arbeitete er an der 76. Ausgabe. Seit dem Jahr 2000 gab es dazu noch die Serie D-Techno mit etwas härterem Musikstil. Außerdem stellte er die ersten sieben Alben der Serie Tunnel Trance Force zusammen. Zu seinen bekanntesten Singles gehören Die Herdplatte 100°, Kinetic Pressure und Overload.
Neben seinen Tätigkeiten als Solokünstler hatte Gary D. auch Kooperationen mit den Hamburger DJ-Kollegen Sven Dohse (Emojonal) und Boris Dlugosch (Subtle Houzze).
Gary D. starb am 1. September 2016 im Alter von 52 Jahren aufgrund einer Lungenembolie.
