Why do we call it Good Friday? Because, through Christ’s sacrifice on this day, our sufferings endured with him are given a salvific power, Father Mark-Mary explains. The sky darkened, an earthquake split the Temple veil, and Jesus died. It was a bad day. And yet, on this day, love conquered sin and death. If the Father can turn something as bad as the death of his son into something good, he can certainly forgive you and I of any sin we may have committed in the past, and turn our lives into something good as well.

Quotes from this video:

“For man does not put this question (of suffering) to the world, even though it is from the world that suffering often comes to him, but he puts it to God as the Creator and Lord of the world.”—Pope St. John Paul II, Salvifici Doloris

“To those who suffer, God does not provide arguments which explain everything; rather, his response is that of an accompanying presence, a history of goodness which touches every story of suffering and opens up a ray of light. .” —Pope Francis, Lumen Fidei
