Adobe After Effects gives great control over the ability to zoom in and out of a video. Using an anchor point the zoom effect can be targeted towards a particular object or face. Zooming in with After Effects will require you to scale up the video size. If you want to zoom in or out of the center then you will want to leave the anchor point in the center. When zooming in with After Effects the video will continue to fill up the entire composition canvas. When zooming out however the video will scale down, meaning it might not fill up as much of the composition. To create a zoom out effect that will fill the entire composition you will want the start keyframe to be zoomed in. This way when the second keyframe scale is lower a zoom out effect will take place.

There are two zoom methods that can be used in After Effects. The first method is static scale where you either zoom in or out of a video. The zoom doesn’t go in or out over time and will sit at one size.

The second option is to zoom in or out of a video over a period of time. This method involves two keyframes being made. The first keyframe will be the starting point, and the second being the final zoom point. This second point will either be what zooms in or oout the video in After Effects.
