How to draw backgrounds for illustrations
Jen Carmichael says in a comment - "I would love to see a process video where you take us through planning and creating the background/environment for a book illustration. I feel like I've got a handle on how to develop a character, but dropping them into their story is a bit more challenging!"
That's a great suggestions with many aspects to the answer. Having finished editing the video, I think there is more to say on this subject, so I'll come back to it in another video.
Basically, I approach the subject, in my mind's eye, as if I were working in layers on Photoshop.
I also imagine I'm a camera as well as a member of the audience in a theatre, while also being the set designer at the same time. It's a bit complicated, so best to watch the video.
