In Ukraine's remote provinces, the roads are in a dire state, left neglected for decades since the country's independence. The shadow of the Soviet era still looms large in these isolated areas. Mikola, driving his old Moskvitch, takes nearly two days to reach his workplace in Sarata, a small village nestled in the mountains. Further south, in the village of Shepit, Dimitri, a dedicated postman, uses his personal car to deliver mail, serving as the only social connection for residents cut off from the outside world. In the Rivne region, Viktor and his team have turned to illegal amber mining to support their families. Despite the risks, they navigate treacherous swamps in a makeshift tank to reach the deposits.
