One year ago, the UF College of Veterinary Medicine launched an open heart surgery program for dogs with degenerative mitral valve disease. The program is the only one of its kind in the United States, and has been transformative, offering life-saving care for dogs and hope to owners who otherwise would have had to travel overseas with their animals for treatment.
