This video shows you how to install a cheap after market CarPlay unit in your Mini Cooper. This is a 2002 model. The install is a pretty easy DIY, but it will require some time. Longest part is the back up camera install, so if you don't need a back up camera, it will definitely cut your time down.

I am glad I changed the stock stereo. Now I have CarPlay, reverse camera, and navigation. None of which I had before. If you don't want to use the cheap Amazon CarPlay system I got, the install will still be basically the same for any system.
