In this interview, pediatric ophthalmologist Katherine Lee, M.D., Ph.D., discusses the worldwide growth in childhood myopia, also known as nearsightedness, and why it’s a public health crisis.
Dr. Lee is the current president of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. She discusses what the science tells us about the role of screen time and myopia progression. Also up for discussion are some of the vision-threatening eye conditions that can develop from high myopia, and what treatments are available to slow it down.
