Russia destroys Ukrainian decoys whilst trying to hit $1bn Patriot air defence systems
Russia has claimed to have destroyed two of Ukraine’s $1bn Patriot air defence systems in the Odesa region of Ukraine, as Kyiv said the attack only struck decoys.
The Patriot is a US-supplied air defence battery, and by far the most expensive single weapon system that Washington has given to Ukraine. Each launcher costs around £800 million and, and each missile around £3.1 million.
Mykola Oleshchuk, the commander of the Ukrainian air force, shared the Russian footage of the attack on social media and said that his air force personnel had “successfully conducted passive defense measures”.
