In the small town of Fairview, every resident was respectful, and none more so than a woman called Miriam, who was deceptively simple in her devotedness. There came one day, however, when a storm struck with such intensity that it was almost certain the entire village would be flooded. Sirens blared. She looked around in an effort to analyze the situation and it was then that she heard someone calling for help from under water. She leaped into action without a second thought and dashed outside, searching for a sound she had heard.
Hesitantly, but resolutely, she also went up and pulled the child down with her into safety, even when the gale was still howling. The man and woman in the house who had restrained the child watched her with the greatest admiration as inspiration bloomed in their hearts.
When at last the storm calmed down, some of them moved out into the town square and they relished the thought of how it was the faith in Miriam that had brought everybody together. It was at that moment that they comprehended that the love of God was not only in words and prayers but it had also to be expressed through deeds.
Since that day, everyone was devoted to carrying on the trade and rebuilding their houses while showing utmost care to one another. Clara’s signed postcard had opened their eyes of fledging women, which had otherwise remained modest as children, to the reality of their society—love, benevolence, and self-sacrifice per the principles of Christ.
The village was vibrant and it has changed for good because now they knew that God actually does most of His work through those who are willing to love.
