Since modern electric vehicles took to the road in the early 2000s, several
critics have questioned the clean label attached to them. The pollution
produced with the manufacturing process of batteries is one of the factors that challenge the clean label of electric vehicles. The range of rare earth materials that make up the composition of the battery and their extraction contribute massively to carbon emissions and cause environmental damage than carbon emissions. Although as EVs become more common and manufacturing becomes more widespread, battery recycling will be more efficient, reducing the need to extract new materials.
