the whales know things u haven’t seen
they’ve felt the weight of centuries
the whales go places you don’t know
they ponder depths beyond below
the whales ferry their souls about
they wail a song of whale renown
they’re swimming thru the soul of earth
the whales alone know what it’s worth

since man crafted his rafts from land
and sailed seas never understanding
marvels: submarine, beneath
for ancient myths and tales to keep
for Jonah Yu-Kiang and Job
Ahab and Pinocchio
do whales tell tales of bearded men
and warn their calves of what has been
the whales
what will become of all the whales

if the rivers turn to mud and blood
and cease to be and naught to run
and the ocean loses all it’s air
and turns to plastic everywhere
