Did you know approximately five to 10 per cent of patients with asthma can develop severe uncontrolled asthma, which requires individually tailored treatment?
Imran Satia, assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at McMaster University and a respirologist at the Firestone Institute for Respiratory Health, St Joseph’s Hospital and Hamilton Health Sciences, explains that asthma is a chronic condition that affects the airways in the lungs.
Symptoms may include shortness of breath, wheezing, chest tightness and coughing.
The progression and management of asthma can differ notably between those who develop it early in life and those who experience late-onset asthma, which appears in adulthood.
In this video, Dr. Satia shares what you need to know about this chronic condition.
