My mother-in-law recently left her job and moved in with us, claiming it's my husband's turn to support her.
My husband and I have been happily married for 16 years, and we have two kids. But everything changed three months ago when she decided to live with us.
She's only 61 and in great health, both mentally and physically. However, she insists she's done working and it's her time to enjoy life, especially since she believes she's done so much for my husband.
This upsets me, especially when I think about my own mom. My mom is the same age but continues to work hard and plans to do so until she can't. She's self-reliant, having saved up for her retirement and even taken care of her funeral costs.
In contrast, my mother-in-law seemed to live for the moment, spending as she pleased and relying on her partners. She never seemed to think about her future. Now it feels like she's making my husband her retirement plan.
I'm not trying to compare her to my own mother. I simply want to highlight the difference between a mother who genuinely loves her children and one who is more self-centered and manipulative.
In the end, the ones who will suffer the most are our children. They may have to deal with the consequences of divorced parents because I'm finding it increasingly difficult to live with this woman for the next 20 years or more that she may have left to live.
I understand that my husband is in a tough spot, but having her constantly around nd meddling is wearing me down. Any thoughts on how to handle this?
