This was a much more challenging puzzle than expected. I ended up with 2 restarts this time. I'm more than happy to restart when I see that all the options I'm taking are leading to dead ends, and I have no idea how far back to go. That said you do learn where some things have to go along the way. The final attempt was just under 16 min, but as I say, that used knowledge gained along the way.

These puzzles are offered up on BlueSky by the @SudokuStore.bsky.social account. They may be posted elsewhere as well. I will try to continue to remember to pause at the beginning of the video so that you have a window within which to pause the video and see if you can solve the puzzle on your own. It may be solved by other people as well.

Come back tomorrow for another challenging puzzle, and feel free to do better and comment here or on BlueSky with how you did time wise, or did you find something that was a key to solving the puzzle. Matt Parker of StandUpMaths has noted that Sudoku is essentially a check sequence puzzle, where the person playing 'solves' the puzzle by generating check sequences that give error correction for missing data. This is similar to techniques used to pass data from the Viking Mars Probes, in that to send a byte of data, three bytes (8 bits) were sent, where if even 2/3 of the data was corrupted or lost, those 8 bits could be regenerated. That was a machine process to review, which is why when the images came back from the probes, they could (mostly) be sent as the bit stream was received. It added to the amount of time it took to get the data from mars, but provided the best data at the time. This is no longer a technique used there, but there are other similar techniques used to insure data integrity in sending data across other noisy environments.

Again, I agree that this puzzle was substantially more of a challenge than the 'Medium' puzzles I've seen, and I think this is something to look forward to as an added challenge. Fewer videos of me solving the puzzle in 6 or 7 minutes and wondering if I've tried solving the puzzle earlier. That's not my method, but some people do that.

When I'm ready to start streaming these, I will demonstrate other options that are available in this puzzle program including how to potentially make use of 'warnings' that I have turned off. I don't use them because it gets to the point where you just don't know if you're actually solving, or just doing random guesses. As you can see in my solves, I do often use educated guesses, where I know that there are really only 2 choices for a given square, but that's me. I've at least narrowed it down to those two options (or those 2 squares with that option.) It's not a perfect world after all
