Documentary filmmaker Trip Jennings flew over the Columbia River Gorge the evening of Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, to capture the extent of the Eagle Creek fire. Jennings invited forest scientist John Bailey of the Oregon State University Department of Forestry to view the burn area and offer his assessment. Jennings, with Balance Media, later visited an area along the Clackamas River that burned in 2002 and interviewed fire ecologist Lisa Ellsworth of the OSU Department of Fisheries & Wildlife. Ellsworth discussed what sort of recovery can be expected in the gorge, based on her experience in fire-burned landscapes. The Mazamas, the Portland-based mountaineering and education organization, and the Crag Law Center, a nonprofit that provides legal aid for the environment, sponsored the film. It was released Thursday afternoon to The Oregonian/OregonLive. Video courtesy of Trip Jennings of Balance Media
