The Canary Islands are an archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean and one of the autonomous regions of Spain. They are located about 100 kilometers from the west coast of Africa and have been under Spanish rule since 1405. They consist of 7 large and numerous small islands with a total area of 7447 km². They are mostly made of basalts and there are many extinct and active volcanoes on the islands of Tenerife, La Palma, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. The climate is tropical, trade wind moderately warm and dry. The Canary Islands are the southernmost region of Spain, the largest and most densely populated archipelago of Macaronesia. These islands form the Macaronesia ecoregion with the Azores, Cape Verde, Madeira and the Savage Islands.

The islands of Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma and Tenerife are popular tourist destinations, while Hierro and Gomera are not as developed as the others and remain quiet and unspoiled.

In the first episode we will look at the islands of Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. They are located in the eastern part of the archipelago. All four islands are radically different. Gran Canaria has rich vegetation in the north and beautiful golden dunes in the south. Tenerife is famous for having the third largest volcano in the world. Fuerteventura is considered the most beautiful island, because of the blue lagoons in the ocean and the white sandy beaches and deserts. Lanzarote is the island of volcanoes. In the past, lava covered 1/3 of the island and made it unearthly beautiful. There is still an active volcano here today, which is hot with a temperature between 100 and 600 degrees.
