We go over the Github repo GPT-engineer, which is blowing up on Github. At the time of writing it has 12k stars.
The open source project allows developers to build entire software applications using a single prompt. The project relies on GPT-4.
It offers a glimpse into the future of software engineering, however, in its current state it has limitations that prevent it from being a practical tool to be used in production.
Those limitations are lack of reliability and inability to produce apps that require frameworks like React JS or Next JS.
Improvements could possibly be made by having a larger context window (32k), using a fine tuned model on documentation for frameworks such as Next JS, using a curated set of embeddings based on recent developer content past 2021, and allowing GPT-4 to reflect on the code it has written to see if there in a betters solution.
