You probably know the story, Mariah originally prepared Loverboy using a sample of Firecracker, by Yellow Magic Orchestra. It's a lively, catchy sample that ended up on Jennifer Lopez's I'm Real track, with help from Mariah's vengeful ex-husband, Tommy Mottola. They beat Mariah's release date, forcing Mariah to make emergency changes to the final Loverboy. You can tell from Da Brat's rap that Mariah had the Firecracker sample prepared all along.
I think Loverboy is a banging tune but the original Firecracker sample would have livened it up even more, as I tried to show in this rendition. Hope you dig it!
