1.6 - How to Use Flowcharts in Programming
⭕ Overview
In this video, I guide you through the basics of using flowcharts in programming. We start by examining some of the common symbols used in flowcharts and how they help in illustrating the flow of logic and data within a program.
First, we look at the flow line, represented by an arrow, which connects various symbols and indicates the direction of the program’s flow. Next, we discuss the terminal symbol, which is an oval shape, marking both the starting and ending points of a program. Every program must have a start and an end, and this symbol helps in defining those boundaries clearly.
We then move on to the input/output symbol, typically depicted as a parallelogram. This symbol is used for both reading inputs and displaying outputs, making it a versatile component in flowcharts. The processing symbol, represented by a rectangle, indicates where processing steps occur within the program.
Finally, we touch on the decision symbol, a diamond shape, used to represent points in the program where decisions are made, such as true/false or yes/no conditions. Understanding these symbols and their functions is crucial for effectively designing and reading flowcharts, which in turn aids in better program planning and debugging.
