Anthony Grafton, Henry Putnam University Professor of History at Princeton University, was Cecil H. and Ida Green Visiting Professor, and this is one of four talks he gave at UBC in March, 2013. Libraries shake, books fall from the shelves, the last hour of the old fashioned text has come—or has it? This lecture reflects on the current transformation of books and libraries, publishing and reading. Some statistics, some stories about the present and some episodes from the history of books and readers in earlier times will be used to shed light on the present and some of the more likely futures.
