Tesla Model S: Battery Swap Announcement

A system for swapping your dead Tesla Model S EV battery with a fully-charged replacement in about 90 seconds is will be added to every Tesla Supercharging Center in the near future. An exact timeline for rollout was not provided. This system is said to be compatible with all existing Tesla Model S vehicles.
According to CEO Elon Musk, this battery swap system gives Tesla Model S drivers the option of immediately renting a fully-charged battery (for a nominal fee) rather than waiting for the standard 30-minute recharge to complete. Battery swap is intended as a short-term loaner system and the customer is expected to return for their own battery (fully-charged) on the final leg of his/her trip.
