In this LLM and visual language understanding model tutorial, we explain how to install and run MiniCPM-V on a local computer in Python and Linux Ubuntu. We also explain how MiniCPM can be used to recognize objects, persons, and animals on images and how it can be used to reason by using two images. Namely, we show how MiniCPM can be used to recognize if an animal on one image is a threat for the animal on the other image

MiniCPM is a series of end-side multimodel Large Language Models (LLMs) designed for visual language understanding. Visual language understanding is a fancy word for understanding images and videos. That is, you provide an image or a video to the model as well as a question or some instruction, and the LLM should understand what is the video or image, and provide an answer.

Installation:

We explain how to install MiniCPM-V in Linux Ubuntu. The installation instructions provided in the GitHub and Hugging Face websites might be incomplete, and we will have to do some tweaking to properly install MiniCPM-V locally. Also, we will have to modify installation instructions and demo Python files such that MiniCPM-V can work without issues on a local computer.
