For years, I spent hours and hours walking through the woods just hoping that I would find the wild gourmet edible mushrooms that I was looking for... to no avail! Once I started to learn how to identify the trees that the prized mushrooms I wanted to find were associated with, my success rate climbed.
Morels are known to be associated with slippery elm (Ulmus rubra) particularly dead elm trees. In this video, we learn how to use several different identification characteristics of elm in order to positively identify it to help us hone our morel scouting skills!
Thanks to [Barkin' up the right tree]( / @barkinuptherighttree4698 ) for supplying footage of American Elm bark.
