Cable manufacturer and the people in the field of electrical engineering always choose the stranded conductor over solid conductor infact other than control wire no other cable is made that is a solid conductor , that is because electricity has a tendency to flow through the surface area of any conductor and most of the material in the middle of a conductor is almost wasted .
So to eliminate this problem lots of thin wire are twisted together to form a stranded conductor , it has some other advantages like flexibility increases and mechanical stress withstand capacity increases
