Anal fissures are painful cracks around the anal skin just outside the rectum. They’re caused by increased external and internal anal sphincter muscle tone (tightness) and difficulty relaxing these muscles when you’re pooping.

Rectal dilators can help heal anal fissures by gently stretching anal tissues to improve blood flow, reduce muscle tension and pain with pooping.

Here are four tips to get you started with rectal dilators:

Find a relaxing position; lying semi-reclined with legs supported by pillows or on your side.
Start with the smallest dilator first and gradually work up in size overtime.
Apply water-based lubricant to the dilator and around the anal area to reduce friction ease insertion.
Gently insert the dilator into your anus as you take slow, soft, and steady breaths. Pause if you feel resistance to allow your tissues to adapt to the new stretch.

If you feel worsening discomfort stop and try again later. Remember to consult with a qualified pelvic floor therapist to for individualized support and guidance.

My favorite rectal dilators are by Intimate Rose You can warm them or cool to soothe crabby anal tissue too! https://www.intimaterose.com/?ref=SUSIE #intimaterose
