A Medieval Struggle Over Land
The Polish–Teutonic War (1326–1332) was a conflict between the Kingdom of Poland and the Teutonic Order. The war was part of a broader struggle over control of Pomerelia, a region in northern Poland, which the Teutonic Knights had seized in 1308. Polish King Władysław I sought to reclaim this territory, leading to a series of military campaigns. The conflict saw several battles, including the Battle of Płowce in 1331, where the Polish forces achieved a symbolic victory. However, the war ended without a decisive outcome, with both sides exhausted and seeking peace. The Treaty of Kalisz, signed in 1343, eventually settled the dispute, with Poland regaining some territories while the Teutonic Order retained control over Pomerelia. This war was a key chapter in the ongoing rivalry between Poland and the Teutonic Order, influencing future conflicts.
