Once they were the advanced forts of service and industrial people, moving farther and farther behind the "fur Eldorado." However, many settlements suffered the fate of the mining towns of the American Gold Rush: having received fifteen minutes of fame, they came to desolation when the resources of the surrounding regions were exhausted. In the XVII century, one of the largest such cities arose on the Ob. It lasted a little over 70 years, but became legendary, became the first Arctic city of Siberia, the symbol of Yamal, and in general its history turned out to be short, but vivid. In the ferocious frosty lands inhabited by warlike tribes, the quickly became famous Mangazeya grew.
