In the center of the plot is a young teacher Marina Konovalyuk from the small town of Novye Plavni and policeman Alexei Tereshchenko, “exiled” from the region. Marina believed in the sincerity of a married man and got into a huge scandal, and Lesha committed a serious official misconduct. New Plavni are on the verge of flooding due to abnormal rainfalls. The townspeople, out of habit, hope that someone “from above” will solve their problems, but the circumstances are such that saving drowning people is the work of the drowning people themselves. And not only their future, but also the salvation of the entire city depends on whether Marina and Alexey can swim out of their own troubles...
