Sometimes you want to put a device somewhere where there's no power. Or there is power, but you don't want an unsightly thick power cable running up the wall in addition to the network cable. Thankfully, we have PoE for that. Power over Ethernet is exactly what it sounds like. It gives us the ability to deliver small amounts of power ( think USB powered device ) over the existing network cabling in your walls. Originally created to power phones in corporate environments, PoE is now able to be used for things like in the home like Phones, Wifi Access Points and thanks to the PoE to USB convertors in this video, also to power IoT smarthome devices like Wyze, and Netatmo Cameras not to mention USB powered LED Strip lights. Pretty cool to say the least. Cleaner cabling and better usage of your wall plugs.
