The film tells the legendary story of Xuanzang, a high monk of the Tang Dynasty, who spent 17 years traveling to India to obtain Buddhist scriptures, facing difficulties and dangers without fear. In the prosperous era of the Tang Dynasty, the young Xuanzang risked his life to sneak out of the country in search of the true essence of Buddhism, encountering numerous obstacles and calamities along the way, yet gaining a deep understanding of the suffering of the common people. Surrounded by soldiers, betrayed by disciples, stranded in a desert, lacking water and food, Xuanzang single-mindedly sought the Dharma. He finally arrived in India, where he promoted kindness, meditation, and Buddhist practice. By the time he successfully returned after participating in the Great Debate in India, he was already an elderly man in his fifties.
