Chef Ebenezer Smith made headlines when he held a press conference to announce his supposed world-record-breaking feat of cooking continuously for 802 hours and 25 minutes. He proudly displayed a certificate he claimed was from Guinness World Records (GWR), affirming his achievement. However, the celebration was short-lived.
On Wednesday, a GWR spokesperson debunked Smith's claims, stating unequivocally that the certificate was not issued by them and that they had no record of his attempt. The spokesperson added that no application for the record had been received from Smith. This revelation sent shockwaves through the community, as many had initially celebrated his achievement.
The controversy deepened when Smith was arrested shortly after his announcement. The arrest was linked to a dispute with his sponsor, Amadia Shopping Centre, located in Accra. The sponsor accused Smith of breaching their contractual agreement by not informing them of the alleged confirmation of the award. As of now, Smith remains in police custody, and no charges have been filed.
