Tragedy on Fairweather Street: Six-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Belize City Canal
Emotions ran high just after six o’clock last night as the body of six-year-old King-Shakel Wade was retrieved from the canal at the Fairweather Street Bridge in Belize City. The child had fallen into the canal sometime after 3 o'clock while in the care of his babysitter and remained submerged for hours. The child had been playing near the water’s edge and reportedly slipped in the canal while attempting to walk across a concrete beam that spans the canal. Reporter Vejea Alvarez visited the scene today and spoke to his family. Here is his report.
In a tragic twist, the child died on the birthday of his father, Shakeem Humes. Shakeem was murdered in August 2020 at his home at mile eight on the George Price Highway.
