Sometimes things just go your way, like the time Yuri Sardarov got a call to audition for NBC’s “Chicago Fire” and the role of Brian “Otis” Zvonecek. Maybe he brought a little extra good luck to the casting call because he was, after all, a native Chicagoan from Northbrook. And he had a lot of talent.
He began acting at Glenbrook North High School and when he enrolled at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, he singled out a theater major. He has confessed to having way too much fun his first couple of years in college before settling down to hone the craft we enjoy seeing in the original Dick Wolf “Chicago” franchise.
From an immigrant family, Yuri, who’s 28, is part Georgian and Armenian. He appeared in the films, “The Double”—written by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, creators and executive producers of “Chicago Fire”—as well as in “The Ides of March” and “Argo.”
Otis is Firehouse 51’s rescue specialist, who also tends bar at everyone’s favorite spot for a toddy, Molly’s.
Enjoy an upbeat and fun conversation with Yuri in this quick video. He shares that all the actors really do get along famously, respect one another tremendously, and that, indeed “there isn’t a bad apple among us!” Otis, he says, “is a total nerd” who’s finally “coming into his own.”
He talks freely about eating and working out here. Oh, and if you go on a date with Yuri, get ready for a surprise!
Catch up with the entire crew of “Chicago Fire” Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
